SEe | Joshua tree national park
At almost 800,000 acres, the stunning terrain should be experienced by everyone at least once. This geologically unique intersection of the Mojave and Colorado deserts was granted national park status in 1994 and is home to all manner of intricate ecosystems.

SEE | Pioneertown
In 1946, Pioneertown was founded by a group of Hollywood investors, including actors Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. They dreamed of creating an Old West set that was actually a town worth visiting, with 1880s-style false-front facades but interiors that had stuff for visitors to see and do too. Up went (from the outside) frontier stables, saloons, and jails; inside, they housed ice cream parlors, bowling alleys, and motels. More than 50 films and television shows were filmed here in the 1940s and ‘50s.
EAT | PIE FOR THE PEOPLE
Since 2001, Pie for the People has been pushing the culinary boundaries of the world of pizza, by taking the traditions of NY pizza and combining them with the freshness and soul of the west coast.

EAT | la copine
This small roadside restaurant is a haven of biodynamic wine and vegetable dishes so tasty and satisfying, you’ll question your meat-eating ways. Check the hours before you go, as opening times vary. The last thing you want is to make the drive out here and find out that it’s closed (sadly, we speak from experience).

SHOP | PIONEERTOWN GENERAL STORE
It’s made up of a single dusty main road with less than a dozen buildings, but Pioneertown is actually an interesting shopping destination. Especially at the General Store, where vintage clothing (particularly boilersuits), incense, natural beauty products, and stuff that seems to be found only in the desert is available in abundance.
